Happy Chinese New Year!
Despite it being a gloomy January the UpStagers have been keeping themselves busy during the long dark evenings.

Emma and I were lucky enough to experience the delights of Gordon's Ramsay's restaurant, Maze at The Marriott Grovesnor Square where we were treated to the fantastic lemon desert spectacle. I won't ruin the surprise but let's just say it involved liquid nitrogen, rest assured no UpStagers were in harmed in the course of the dinner!

On the film front Juliet was pleasantly surprised when she went to see W/E directed by the queen of pop herself, Madge. Phil has been impressed by the dark and disturbing portrayal of 1970's adolescence in the award winning film NEDS (non educated delinquents) by Peter Mullan. And the rest of us have been thoroughly "Sherlocked" by both the small and large screen adaptations!

New intern Alain is clearly the jet setter among us as last week he flew off to the Black Forest in Germany to celebrate his Grandmothers birthday! Lucky lady!

Happy Chinese New Year to you all, I hope the year of the dragon brings everyone much happiness!

Hitting the ground running...

For the rest of the team it's a more sedate week; dominated by trips to the cinema and afternoons curled up with books, hiding from the Arctic conditions outside.

Emma saw 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'; a must-see for anyone who has read the book, seen the Swedish version, or is a fan of Fincher - and 'War Horse'; a beautifully moving film adapted, in an unusual reversal, from the stage version. In between this movie-marathon she managed to squeeze in a Piscean-pedicure – which she enjoyed despite being the 'Girl with the Most Ticklish Feet'.

Other films rated and slated by the team were 'Sherlock Holmes' (Pete though it was, ‘ok’), 'The Ides of March' (Alex thought this was excellent, and not just for the double dose of eye-candy in the forms of Gosling and Clooney…), and 'The Iron Lady' (which Juliet thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely recommend).

Bruce has been reading 'Before I Go To Sleep', a first-novel from SJ Watson, which explores memory, the loss of and the rebuilding of – a fabulation of confabulation, if you will.

Phil has been enjoying 'A Visit from the Goon Squad' (literally – but thankfully only in the novel sense) and Neil has been remembering Ken Russell and Sir Bill Cotton, 'A Bit Of a Devil' and 'The Man Who Made Eric and Ernie'.

Pete has been reading Mark Radcliffe’s novel, 'Thank you for the Days' – a memoir of sorts about his musical misadventures. Pete also showed his face at the Newport vs Cross Keys rugby match which, although he was only spectating and not playing, was at least one step closer to physical exertion than most of us managed.

And so, with varying degrees of rested-ness, the UpStage team return in full force to welcome in the new year, and to start getting excited about all things 2012…

Happy New Year!

Hello and happy new year!

I recently joined UpStage as their Office Manager, and I got to know my colleagues as they revealed what they'd been up to this week...

After all the parties, the food and the booze synonymous with the Christmas period, January is generally the month in which to stay indoors and put ones feet up…

…not for these UpStagers! And certainly not for Gem, who nursed her hangover from her friends’ birthday celebrations by heading to Roka, in Canary Wharf, for a champagne breakfast!

Alain also had a party-fuelled weekend; but with more cake, donkeys’ tails and musical chairs - and less alcohol. Probably the same amount of tears, though.

I'll report back with more UpStage antics soon!

Ho ho ho...!

I can’t believe it’s already the Christmas week!! Time flies when you’re having fun in the UpStage office.

Alex has been sitting in front of the television box watching Black Mirror, which, despite being fairly terrifying in many ways, she would highly recommend. Another television craze in the UpStage office is the programme: This is England ’88. Phil, Bruce and Alex will not stop talking about how amazing this show is. Check it out everybody!

Jet setting for the weekend was Juliet who travelled to Sienna in Tuscany. She enjoyed all the food and drinks in the main piazza; she then walked it off around the walled city and absorbed all the beautiful architecture.

Luckily, Juliet was back in time for our UpStage Christmas celebrations. We all ventured to the ‘Disappearing Dining Club’. What an experience!  In a vintage Shoreditch shop, we had the pleasure of eating individual courses (and many different drinks…hiccup!) on a different floor of the building.  Still with the ability to shop, which some took advantage of….not naming any names…cough, Juliet, cough! Let’s just say we were all filled with Christmas spirit and managed to still make it into the office the next day. A great evening with my fellow UpStagers.

The Christmas party was a lovely way to end my time at UpStage and a memory I’ll keep for a long time. Thank you for this great experience.

On behalf of the whole team here at UpStage, we wish you a very happy (and merry!) Christmas and prosperous new year!  If you haven't already seen it, check out our festive greeting card, inspired by our critically acclaimed UpStage nativity production: http://www.upstagelivecom.co.uk/Christmas

Light up the Festive Season

December has arrived in the UpStage office and everyone is full of Christmas spirit.

Although I’ve been boring and sat indoors studying hard. It’s a tough life, but I’ve enjoyed being warm inside the house!!

Kicking us off is Juliet who has been wondering around deer parks with family, whilst still finding the time to read ‘Water for Elephants’. I just don’t know where she finds the energy.

More family activities have been happening with Phil, Michelle and the kids, who all spent the weekend at Eckington Manor  to brush up on their cooking skills. It was a stunning venue set in the English Countryside, sounds like heaven. The cooking course wasn’t such a beautiful scene...ended in a mess by both children and adults!!

Alex has been making the most of the Christmas German market in Manchester and then ventured on to do some ice skating! Surely it’s too cold to be outside in this weather. The weather couldn’t keep Alex from “dancing her socks off” at Factory rocks all night long. Maybe with some help from the alcoholic spirit.

On the other hand, Pete has been chilling in Amsterdam. Apparently he couldn’t remember a thing from his last visit 20 years ago! But he had a wonderful time retracing his steps and making new memories.

Although the festive season lit up the UpStage office, we have had to say goodbye to one of our UpStagers, Lauren. We wish her all the best!

See you soon for the next winter blog.
